At MB&F, complications are far more than just technical feats. The new Legacy Machine Perpetual Chromatic Edition pushes the boundaries of haute horlogerie expression, perfectly blending cutting-edge mechanics with visual emotion to create a truly unique masterpiece.

The LM Perpetual watch is widely recognized as one of the most innovative perpetual calendar watches in contemporary watchmaking, and three new interpretations will be launched in 2026, each limited to eight pieces. These extremely rare versions feature a bezel set with baguette-cut gemstones for the first time, highlighting the exquisite movement structure designed for MB&F by Stephen McDonnell.

Two 750/1000 white gold watches are set with blue and purple sapphires respectively, while the third 750/1000 rose gold watch is renowned for its bezel set with rubies. Each gemstone is hand-set by artisans at STG Creation, a long-term partner of the brand, in Geneva.

The gem-setting doesn't alter the proportions or balance of the 44mm case. Here, the bezel naturally becomes an extension of the mechanical structure, highlighting the suspended movement and the renowned flying balance wheel, which in turn dominates the skeletonized dial.

The PVD-treated hands echo the colors of the gemstones: deep blue hands for blue sapphire, purple hands for purple sapphire, and 5N polished hands for the ruby ​​models, perfectly harmonizing with the 750/1000 rose gold case.

But beyond its aesthetic design, the Legacy Machine Perpetual's most fundamental significance lies in its mechanical revolution. Developed from scratch by Stephen McDonnell, its perpetual calendar abandons the traditional 31-day month system, instead employing reverse logic with a 28-day month reference. Thanks to a true "mechanical processor," the movement adds only the necessary days based on the month and leap year.

This method eliminates the classic flaws of traditional perpetual calendars: no more uncontrolled date jumps, no more risk of damaging the movement during adjustments, and no more tedious calibrations.

This fully integrated movement comprises 581 parts, its entire complexity showcased on the dial. The subdials appear to float above the movement, with no visible connecting parts, while the large, suspended balance wheel lends the watch an almost hypnotic allure.

The Legacy Machine Perpetual, winner of the 2016 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève, remains one of the most intelligent, spectacular, and captivating interpretations of modern perpetual calendar watches. These new, vibrant editions reinterpret this classic in an even more unique and daring way.
